Safety, Security & Safeguarding Coordinator

About the role

The Safety, Security and Safeguarding Coordinator will work closely with the Regional Security Director to assess safety and security risks, recommend actions and support their implementation across Save the Children programmes in Rwanda and Burundi. The role champions child safeguarding, ensuring that all activities meet the organisation’s standards and national regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct safety and security assessments and provide recommendations to country offices.
• Facilitate implementation of Save the Children’s Safety and Security Policy and Standards.
• Lead child safeguarding efforts across Rwanda and Burundi offices, identifying risks and planning mitigating measures.
• Advocate for safeguarding policies at national level and establish local safeguarding networks.
• Map service providers for children and keep local safeguarding procedures up‑to‑date.
• Coach and support field focal points to improve safeguarding practice.
• Ensure all programme design, implementation and monitoring incorporate a safeguarding lens.
• Secure appropriate budgeting for safeguarding activities in new project proposals.

Required profile

• Experience working with safety, security and child safeguarding in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Ability to work closely with senior security leadership and programme teams.
• Frequent contact with children or young people as part of programme delivery.
• Commitment to anti‑fraud, integrity and compliance with organisational policies.
