Safety, Security & Safeguarding Coordinator

About the role

The Safety, Security and Safeguarding Coordinator works closely with the Regional Security Director to assess safety and security risks, implement Save the Children’s policies, and champion child safeguarding across Rwanda and Burundi offices. The role drives systemic improvements in safety management and ensures compliance with minimum standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct safety and security assessments and recommend mitigation measures.
• Facilitate implementation of Save the Children’s Safety and Security Policy and Standards.
• Lead child safeguarding efforts, ensuring compliance with Level 3 contact requirements.
• Advocate for safeguarding policies at national level and establish country safeguarding networks.
• Map and maintain service‑provider databases for child protection services.
• Coach field focal points to improve safeguarding practices.
• Integrate safeguarding considerations into program design, budgeting and monitoring.
• Support emergency/humanitarian response teams with safeguarding guidance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in safety, security or child safeguarding within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Understanding of Save the Children’s safeguarding standards and minimum safety standards.
• Ability to work across multiple country offices (Rwanda and Burundi).
• Strong advocacy and communication skills.
• Commitment to anti‑fraud and integrity policies.
