Cold Chain & Refrigeration Consultant for Medical Warehouse Project in Kigali

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a specialist to provide technical assistance for the Rwanda Medical Suppliers (RMS) Modern Medical Warehouse project in Kigali. The consultant will support the design, procurement, installation, testing and operational readiness of cold‑chain facilities, ensuring they meet current and future pharmaceutical storage needs.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and finalize design specifications for cold rooms, freezers and monitoring systems.
• Develop technical specifications and support procurement processes.
• Oversee installation, conduct testing, commissioning and verify operational readiness.
• Review existing cold‑room maintenance contracts and recommend improvements.
• Ensure integration of temperature‑controlled systems with overall warehouse infrastructure.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Refrigeration, Mechanical, Thermal, HVAC, Energy Engineering or a closely related field.
• At least 10 years of professional experience in refrigeration, cold‑chain or temperature‑controlled storage systems.
• Minimum 7 years of experience designing, specifying or implementing industrial or pharmaceutical cold‑chain facilities.
• Professional certification or specialized training in refrigeration, pharmaceutical/medical cold‑chain, HVAC or related areas is an advantage.
