Cold Chain & Refrigeration Consultant for Medical Warehouse in Kigali

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a specialist to provide technical assistance for the Rwanda Medical Suppliers (RMS) Modern Medical Warehouse project in Kigali. The consultant will support the design, specification, procurement, installation oversight, testing, commissioning and operational readiness of cold‑chain facilities within the new warehouse.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and finalize design of cold rooms, freezers and monitoring systems.
• Develop technical specifications and support procurement processes.
• Oversee installation, conduct testing and commissioning of temperature‑controlled equipment.
• Ensure integration of cold‑chain infrastructure with overall warehouse operations.
• Review and improve existing cold‑room maintenance contracts.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Refrigeration, Mechanical, Thermal, HVAC, Energy Engineering or a related field.
• At least 10 years of professional experience in refrigeration, cold‑chain or temperature‑controlled storage systems.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in design, specification or implementation of industrial or pharmaceutical cold‑chain facilities.
• Professional certification or specialized training in refrigeration, pharmaceutical/medical cold‑chain, HVAC or related areas is an advantage.
