About the role
MASS is looking for a Structural Engineer to join its Africa Studio for an initial 12‑month period supporting the Beginnings Fund, a multi‑country programme improving maternal and newborn health facilities across Malawi, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia. The role involves delivering resilient, cost‑effective structural solutions for both new builds and adaptations of existing healthcare infrastructure.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Revit models and as‑built drawings.
- Produce engineering design drawings for all project stages.
- Provide guidance on local codes, regulations, construction practices, material availability and costs.
- Support communication and collaboration with local partners, including translation when needed.
- Participate in trainings on maternal‑newborn healthcare design, human‑centered design, sustainability and resiliency.
- Assist in reviewing and improving Ministry of Health infrastructure design standards.
- Undertake site visits, travel regularly to project locations and provide on‑site quality oversight as required.
Required profile
- 3–7 years of professional experience in structural engineering.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams while taking individual initiative.
- Experience across all project phases, from concept design to construction documentation.
