Senior Breast Imaging Officer

About the role

The Senior Breast Imaging Officer will lead the implementation of the MURIKA project, a hybrid implementation‑effectiveness trial aimed at decentralising breast ultrasound services across 16 district hospitals in Rwanda. Based in Butaro, the role combines clinical expertise with remote supervision to ensure high‑quality breast imaging in low‑resource settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide real‑time virtual supervision to clinicians and medical imaging technologists using tele‑ultrasound technology and the REACTS radiology platform.
• Deliver asynchronous feedback on saved ultrasound examinations, ensuring continuous skill development.
• Travel regularly to selected district hospitals to support on‑site training, quality assurance, and troubleshooting.
• Coordinate with the Director of Research and Training and partner institutions, reporting progress and outcomes.
• Maintain project documentation, data collection, and compliance with research protocols.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with extensive experience in breast imaging, particularly diagnostic breast ultrasound.
• Proven ability to supervise and mentor clinicians remotely, preferably in telemedicine or implementation research contexts.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to travel frequently within Rwanda.
• Commitment to improving cancer care access in underserved populations.
