Coordinating Centre Lead – African Genomics Centres of Excellence

About the role

The African Genomics Centres of Excellence (GenCoE) Coordinating Centre Lead will be the central figure driving collaboration across institutions, stakeholders, and industry partners to advance ethical human genomic data sharing in Africa. Based in Rwanda, the role provides strategic and operational leadership for GenCoE’s Centres of Excellence and Developing Centres of Excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and oversight for GenCoE Centres of Excellence and Developing Centres of Excellence.
• Develop and implement frameworks for secure, transparent, and ethical genomic data and sample sharing.
• Ensure compliance with global data‑privacy regulations, informed‑consent protocols, and ethical guidelines.
• Coordinate training initiatives to strengthen local genomic research capacity.
• Oversee governance structures, including Advisory Board, Executive Steering Committee, and Financial Oversight Body.
• Manage donor reporting, publications, presentations, and stakeholder communications.
• Represent the Coordinating Centre at meetings, conferences, and external engagements.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent) in genomics, bioinformatics, genetics, public health, or a related scientific field.
• 10–15 years of experience managing large‑scale research programs or multi‑stakeholder collaborations, preferably in genomics or life sciences.
• Proven ability to lead diverse teams and foster inclusive collaborations.
